Kamuli Mission Hospital is a 160 bed general hospital which achieved its centenary in 2014. It is located 60 km north of Jinja. It also has a nursing and midwifery training school.
Rotary Doctor Bank has supported Kamuli by funding volunteers since 1999. Dr Tim Jenkinson went every year from 2000 to 2009 – see archive Nov 2013. Dr Jim McWhirter took over from him accompanied by Sr Jill Brooks and many short term visitors were also funded by RDB.
RDB donated computers in 2011 which were installed by Medicaudit. This financial management system has led to significant increases in hospital income.
In 2014 a Rotary Global Grant provided £150,000 to refurbish and extend the maternity ward and convert the old operating theatre into a new ward for VVF work.
In 2011 Dr Philip Unwin took over from Jim as a regular Doctor Bank volunteer. Philip and his niece, Dr Alice Unwin, are continuing to support and help develop KMH through their charity, Kamuli Friends.
Kamuli Friends have undertaken an extensive building programme which has included a guest house for visitors and accommodation for staff.
