Kilembe Hospital is near the town of Kasese in western Uganda under the foothills of the Rwenzori mountains, 350 km from Kampala via a good road. It is a Government owned hospital which is run by a Catholic Mission. It is a busy hospital with medical, surgical, maternity and children’s wards. It is a centre of excellence for orthopaedic surgery.
On 1st May 2013 a flash flood destroyed the kitchen, the mortuary, a ward, staff accommodation and equipment, including the recently-acquired X- ray machine. The hospital has had to close temporarily but there were no fatalities. The picture shows all that remained of staff accommodation.
In November 2013 Rotary provided support for staff quarter refurbishment for four nurses through a District Grant from the Rotary Club of Henley Bridge, UK and District 1090.
Medicaudit installed its hospital management system in 2010 and Rotary Doctor Bank have subsequently donated computers and orthopaedic equipment including an electric drill and covers.
