Soroti Regional Referral Hospital is situated 320Km North –East of Kampala.
It became a district hospital in 1978 and was elevated to a regional referral status in 1996.
It is the main government referral facility for the mid-eastern region of Uganda with a bed capacity of 274. The hospital offers specialist curative (medicine, pediatrics, surgery, maternal health) promotive, preventitive, rehabilitative and research services to a population of approx 2 million people. It is always extremely busy.
The Rotary Club of Thanet, UK, along with the Rotary Club of Soroti Central is currently leading a project to improve water supply at the hospital. The present situation is woefully inadequate as the hospital usually only has water for about 12 hours each day and sometimes much less. The picture shows the non-functional borehole.
